Matt was one of the first people I got to know when I moved to the US. He treated me like we’d always known each other. A good guy, a big heart, a warmth that can’t be taught. I found out he passed this week and wanted to pay my respects and express my sadness. He won’t be forgotten.

Its taken me too long to write this. I was fortunate to have met Matt through one of my best friends from growing up, Michael Obrien and who went to college with him at Albright.. I thus became friends with Matt and I totally agree with what everyone has writen here..Every time I saw him he treated me like an old friend and iii m happy to say that a few of the funniest times in my life were with Matt..

The last time I saw him was, unfortunately, at another one our mutual friends fumerals in 2012. I can remember even at that horrible time for me how he made me smile.

My heart is broken for your loss and knowing how little I knew him I could only imagine what he meant to his family. He'll be remembered by more people than you may ever know.

And to my boy Matt thanks for being my firend.

Dear Danny, Katy and Danny ,Jr.,
What a shock. I just learned from Mary Claire Moran Smit that you have lost your Matt. I also learned fom her that Madelone and Betsy are gone.
She didn't have a number for you so suggested I try through Day Funeral home. Here I am Reading Mat's obituary was a good experience. Your friends and Matt's sent such loving condolences. I feel as though I know that tall, caring, bright man. In fortunately that can't be the case.
Years ago I googled your family and found only your Dad's obituary. I also phoned Ralphie and Nancy when Dottie passed away, but got no response. It is a shame that distance and busyness have kept our families from knowing one another. I've gone on too long. I have a million thoughts and questions. Please reply with you email so we can pick up the thread Deepest sympathy and affection -Jeannie Crissy Newell, Bowling Green, KYr

Dear Slocum family,
I had the pleasure of working with Matt for ~2 years at Wunderman. He was a standup guy and could see through to the true character of his colleagues and clients alike. I grew up in Pittsburgh and went to college near New Jersey. I knew we were birds of a feather in Seattle from the moment I met Matt. I'm terribly sorry for your loss and hope you take comfort in these memories. He will be deeply missed.

Dan Sr. I am so very sorry for the loss of your son Matt. My deepest condolences to you, Dan Jr and Katie. I know it's been many many years since we have seen each other but I have a lot of great memories of all the times and fun things of being with you, Madeline and your children. Matt was so young when I last saw him and I remember him to be such a sweet boy and I am sure he grew to be an exceptional man. I did not know of Madeline's passing and I am sorry for that but Matt is now in her loving arms and she will take good care of him. My prayers and love are with you and your family and may you comfort each other during this difficult period of time. Love you Diana

Matt and I met when we were both assigned to the same project at work, several years ago. We were different from one another - Matt so much more outgoing than I could ever hope to be - but we got along straight away. His humor and quick wit lightened up even those tough days at the office, and we laughed a lot together (maybe on those days the most.)

Intelligent and kindhearted, Matt quickly became more than a colleague - he became a mentor, and a friend. He's one of those few completely genuine people that you find in life and I am grateful that our paths crossed. Matt will be missed by so many. Please accept our deepest condolences.

Dearest Slocum family - Greg and I are devastated by Matt's passing and can't even imagine what your family is going through. We have been friends with Matt and Cheryl since soon after they moved to Seattle. We played softball with Matt and most recently, lived just a couple of blocks from him when he moved to the Ballard/Crown Hill neighborhood of Seattle. We loved having him living close to us because we could see him a few times every week.

He spoke of his family all the time. Though we have only met Dan Jr. (and Claire met Aunt Lynn last week), you are well known to us through Matt. He was such a good story teller and loved to tell us family and growing up stories. And though he was a little lost after the Mrs. Slocum passed, he kept his happy memories of her alive by telling us about her all the time, including sharing the letter she wrote to Matt when he was a baby.

Mr. Slocum - I was the second base player that signed the softball "Da Hoover," as Matt nicknamed me. For that one game. And only that one game. He was a patient first base player to my second base best efforts, as I had never played before.

Kate and Dan - he LOVED his nephews and we often had to have competing stories about who had the coolest nephews, as we have several around the same age as yours.

Kate and Mike - he was texting us on NYE during the goofy competition he and Mike had. He seemed happy and uplifted by spending time at home with your family over the holidays.

It was so clear from the moment we met Matt that he was raised in a family that gave all of us the blessing of a wonderful friend. He was a gentleman, a confidant, a competitor who raised the bar for others, an intelligent creative soul who inspired great conversations, a music lover who always played the best music and knew all the words, and a friend who was there when anyone needed him. His passing has left a gaping hole in many of our lives, but we will carry him in our hearts forever.

Thank you for giving us the gift of Matt. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Matt got me through high school - my best friend there. He was in my wedding, we worked at same place at one point, traveled to two different continents together (Asia and South America) and moved to Seattle together. Loved him like a brother. Smart, witty and always full of energy. He was larger than life but also a great person in smaller settings and I know his family was the reason why. My deepest condolences to Mr. Slocum, Dan and Kate (who we called the Goose and I don't know why). We wil never forget him.
