Sonia M. Miranda 79 years young of Atlantic Highlands NJ, later retired in Freehold, NJ. Sonia passed away Friday, July 22nd, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold, NJ.
She was the wife of Julio Miranda, mother of 3 children Milagros Miranda, Sonnie Miranda, and Julio Miranda. She was also a grandmother to Fabien Rodriquez, Kristina Rodriguez, Xavier Miranda, Juliana Miranda, and great grandmother Ava, Levi and Joel Rodriguez.
Sonia was born in San Juan, PR on November 23, 1942. The daughter of the late Felicita (Flecha) and Salustiano Rivera. She left the little Island and arrived in the land of Manhattan in 1961.
She owned/operated a dry cleaner in the Bronx, New York for 9 years. Parents then owned and operated in Valley Cleaners Navesink, NJ for 32 years. She was an excellent seamstress and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was 40-year parishioner at the Jesus the Lord RCC, in Keyport. She also was an Activist, for the HIV communities for 13 years, raising money every year for find a cure for. She loved life to the fullest.
Sonia is survived by her loving husband Julio, cherished children Milagros, Sonia, Julio and his wife Pamela, grandchildren Fabian, Kristina, Xavier and Julianna and 3 great grandchildren Ava, Levi and Joel. She also left behind are her devoted sister's Nayda Rivera and Nelly Velazquez.
Visitation will be held 2 PM to 4 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM on Sunday, July 31st at Day Funeral Home in Keyport, New Jersey. Visitation will be held again 9 AM to 9:45 AM on Monday, August 1st at Day Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, August 1st at Jesus The Lord RCC in Keyport, NJ and cremation will be private
