It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Sandra Lee Black, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey on October 11, 2021, at the age of 71 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Sandra was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully.
Sandra was born in Guang Dong Province, China on June 30, 1950. She emigrated to the United States with her family as a teenager, learned to speak English and went on to graduate from high school. After high school, she worked in the banking industry for several years until she met and subsequently wed her husband, Patrick Thomas Black. They went on to have two children, Den-el Opuszynski (nee Black) and Daniel Black.
Soon after fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a mother, a feat that every doctor told her was impossible, she decided to dedicate her life to being a loving, supportive, and wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a fiercely dedicated mother/grandmother to her children/grandchildren. Family came first and was above all else to Sandra, a value she instilled in all those around her. When asked as to why she did not play the lottery, she would respond, “I have two beautiful children and four beautiful grandchildren, to me that’s worth more than a million dollars”. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.
When Sandra was not taking care of her children or grandchildren and filling the world with warmth and kindness, she could be found obsessively playing mah jong with her friends and family and often would play for over 24 hours straight without any sleep.
Sandra is predeceased by her father, Kam Kau Lee; her mother, Sik Foon Lee (nee Hui); and her husband, Patrick Thomas Black.
Sandra had an incredibly close relationship and bond with her four siblings and nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Gee and Carol Lee, her fraternal twin brother, Joseph Lee, brother John Lee and six nieces and nephews.
Sandra is survived by her daughter, Den-el Opuszynski (nee Black), her husband, James Opuszynski and grandchildren Jade Opuszynski and Tyler Opuszynski. Sandra is survived by her son, Daniel Black, his wife Nancilyn Black (nee Petronella) and grandchildren Samantha Black and Sarah Black.
There will be a celebration of her life on Monday October 18, 2021, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, New Jersey 07735. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday October 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, New Jersey.
