Richard M. Valanzola, 70, of Manalapan, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Rich was born in Jersey City on December 27, 1950, a son of the late Charles and Claire Valanzola and raised in Union Beach. He previously resided in Barnegat, Keyport and Point Pleasant. Rich received a Bachelor of Science from Missouri Valley College, was a member of the TKE fraternity, and received a Master in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College. He taught High School History and Language Arts in the Matawan Aberdeen School District for 37 years before retiring in 2010. He was known affectionally as “Mr. Val” by his students and coached Track and Field and Basketball. His commitment to teaching was his life’s joy. Rich also had a lifelong love of reading and could always be found carrying a book from his extensive collection. He was a devoted family man to his daughter, son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He had a quick wit and loved telling stories. He enjoyed traveling, especially to National Historical sites around the country and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.
Rich is survived by his long-time partner, Tracy Richards and his 2 children Tracy Valanzola and Chad Valanzola. Rich also leaves behind a brother Chuck (Cathi) Valanzola, a sister Joyce (Thomas) Neff, 2 grandchildren Christopher (Tessa) Valanzola and Alyssa (Zachary) Bajkowski, 2 great grandchildren Peyton and Luke Matthew, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM, and again Thursday October 14, 2021 9:15 AM at the funeral home with a funeral service at the funeral home at approximately 10 AM.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery of Keyport.
