Major Alf M. Berg Sr.

 Major Alf M. Berg, Sr., 96, of Eatontown, NJ passed away Friday, November 6th, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. 

He was the widower of Mary Berg. Alf was born in Haugesund Norway, on April 5, 1924, a son of the late Anna and Edwin Berg.
He served in the U.S. Army and is a WWII Veteran retiring as a Major. He served in the 99th Special Forces Ski Division serving in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He spent time as a training officer for the 101 Airborne in North Carolina and also for Basic Training in South Carolina. He received The World War II Victory Medal, Norwegian Participation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Europe Africa Middle East Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Medal from Federation of French War Veterans, Defense and Commemorative Medal From Norway, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor Medal by French President Francois Hollande, and the Award of the Belgium Fourragere Medal to name a few.

After retiring from the US Army he was a Founder and Corporation President of the Meadowbrook Senior Citizen Building, a 3 year member of the Eatontown Board of Education, Volunteered for 10 years at Monmouth Medical Center. Alf was also a Counselor of Admissions at Brookdale Community College and was the author of the military guide book for college students.

Alf is survived by his cherished sons Alf Jr. and Philip. He also leaves behind his 6 loving grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday 10:30 to 1pm at the funeral home.

A Religious Service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, November 12th at Day Funeral Home in Keyport, New Jersey.

Interment will be held at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, NJ.
