Joan Clifton, a lifelong resident of Matawan, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021.
Joan’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is
predeceased by her loving husband James, daughter Elizabeth, brother William Devereaux, and brother-
in laws William and Daniel. She is survived by her children and their spouses, James (Sheryl) of Newport
News, VA, Judy (Peter) of Yardville, NJ Richard (Jean) of Newtown, PA and Robert (Tracy) of Matawan,
NJ. She also leaves eight cherished grandchildren, Kelly (Scott), James (Kristyn), Caitlin (Joseph), Ryan
Colleen, Kevin, Sean, Robert, John and one great grandson Jay Durham, and in-laws Rosemarie, Joseph
and Nancy Clifton; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Joan was a proud graduate of Matawan High School, Class of 1952. She remained dear friends with
many classmates through the years and enjoyed planning M.H.S. class reunions. After raising her family,
Joan worked for Bob McCloskey Insurance where she happily remained a loyal and dedicated employee
for over 40 years. When she wasn’t working, Joan spent summers enjoying sunsets and family in Seaside
Park.

Ocean Counties, Inc.)
Relatives and friends are invited Friday, September 10, 2021 from 4-8 PM and Saturday, September 11,
2021 from 9 AM to 9:45 AM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, 10 AM at St. Clement Church, Matawan. Internment will follow
at St Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.
