Obituary

James E. Bartolomeo, a longtime union delegate for the Teamsters 560, passed away on May 6, 2023, at the age of 80. James was born on May 29, 1942, and raised in Fairview, NJ by his parents Ernest Modesto Bartolomeo and Agnes Ambrosio. He was a beloved father survived by his two daughters, Joy Anne Gallo and Kim Marie Chaves, and their respective spouses, Vincent Gallo and Anthony Chaves. James was a devoted grandfather to Sofia, Ava, and Nico, and Anthony, Nicholas, Evangelina, Juliana, and Veronica. He was also a cherished brother to Patricia Verbitski, her husband Michael, their daughter Lori Solan and her husband Jason Solan. James is also survived by his & "adopted daughter" Madelaine Murphy Beyer.

James proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War and dedicated his life to advocating for the rights of his fellow workers in the Teamsters union. He started as a truck driver in the union and worked his way up to become a Delegate Trustee. James was known for his unwavering commitment to ensuring fair representation for his fellow union members, and he was a respected leader within the Teamsters 560.

Despite experiencing his fair share of personal tragedies, including the loss of his wife Peggy, daughter Megan, and son James R., James remained a steadfast source of support and strength for his family. James' love for his family was evident to all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved ones, watching Fox News, going to the beach in his earlier years, and reading books about U.S. history and the mafia.

Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial visitation on Thursday, May 11th, 2023, from 11 am to 1 pm at Our Lady of Grace Church in Fairview, NJ. The visitation will be followed by a funeral mass at 1 pm. A reception will follow at Ferraro's in Westfield, NJ. In honor of his memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey in lieu of flowers. Contributions made in James's name will help make a difference in the lives of children facing critical illnesses, a cause that was close to his heart.

James will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, strength, and dedication to his family and community, as well as his contributions to the labor movement, will live on forever.

Dad/Papa, everyday there will be something that will remind us of you! You are the best thing that could ever be in our life - thank you for everything! Till we meet again…
