Frieda Doughty Obituary

Frieda M Doughty, 78, a resident of Cheesequake Village in Matawan, passed away Jan 6, 2022 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune NJ, surrounded by her husband and daughters.

Frieda was born May 7, 1943 in Jersey City, NJ, a daughter of the late Edward and Frieda (Goetz) Bradt. After the death of her parents, she moved to Monmouth County, working as a waitress at Howard Johnson in Middletown. She soon met the Rosseters, who quickly became family and then married the love of her life, Thompson Gregory Doughty.

Frieda and Greg raised three daughters on Walnut Street in Keyport. Frieda enjoyed watching her girls play softball, basketball and field hockey, even if she didn't understand the game. She became a second mom to all of the girls' friends and cousins. She loved spending time with her family and friends, watching sports on TV, taking trips to Atlantic City, and watching her grandbabies grow.

In addition to her parents and biological siblings, Frieda was predeceased by her son-in-law Ed Neville, and members of her second family - Carolyn and Willis Rosseter, David Rosseter, Loretta Creed, George Beck, and James Mertz.

Frieda is survived by her husband Greg, her daughters, Edie Neville (Debra Burnside Senese), Carole Benoit (Dan Benoit), and Marilyn Ecklyn (Jim Ecklyn). Also surviving are her 7 cherished grandchildren: Rebecca Ecklyn, Daniel Benoit, Hayley Neville, James Ecklyn, Hunter Neville, Dylan Senese, and Victoria Benoit. She leaves behind two sisters, Carolyn Rosseter Allwell and Marilyn Rosseter Biel and brother William Rosseter, her beloved nieces and nephews, and her best friend Laura Jones. Frieda was a force of nature, strong to the very end, and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.

Frieda's greatest joy in life was when her loved ones gathered together around her. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Frieda's life on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Visitation will be from 1-5 PM, with the funeral rites at 4:30 pm. Services are in the care of Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport. A repast will be offered following the service at Yesterday's Banquet Center, Rt 35, Hazlet. Frieda's wish to be cremated will be honored, and her ashes interred during a private ceremony at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet at a later date.
