Ellen Margaret O'Connell

    Ellen Margaret (Duignan) O'Connell, 92 of Cliffwood Beach, passed away Monday May 29, 2023 at Bayshore Community Hospital of Holmdel.  

   She was born in New York City to the late George Duignan and Loretta (Dunn) Duignan.

   Ellen was also predeceased by her beloved husband Corneilius O'Connell; siblings George and Lawrence Duignan, and her son-in-law Douglas Smialowicz.

   She is survived by her loving children Colleen Smialowicz of Hazlet, Loretta Sobin and her husband Frank of Union Beach, Dennis O'Connell and his wife Sheila of Manasquan and Ellen English and her husband Keith of Fanwood; cherished grandchildren Sean, Ryan, Caitlin, Joseph, Connor, Rory, Kristen, Caroline, Mary Rose; dear great-grandchildren Riley, Emma, Jack Ryan, Benjamin and Aubrey; her siblings Susan Magill and Loretta Summa; and loving nieces and nephews.

   Ellen was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Laurence Harbor, enjoyed bingo, crocheting, was proud of her Irish heritage, and above all else was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

   Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Day Funeral Home of Keyport, New Jersey.

   Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation for Ellen on Wednesday May 31, 2023 from 4-8PM at Day Funeral Home 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735 and again on Thursday June 1, 2023 9AM at the funeral home for a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Church of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey.

   Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery of Keyport.
