Edward Eastmond Jr Obituary

Edward Eastmond II, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather of Union
Beach, passed away at the age of 86 on January 27, 2023. Born on November 26, 1936 in his
family home in Union Beach, to Edward Eastmond & Catherine Phyllis Havens, he was one of
eight children. Edward was a proud Union Beach resident his whole life and enjoyed dedicating
his time to bettering the community. He loved telling his family of all the changes that were
made throughout his years as a resident.
At the age of 19, Edward proudly enlisted in the Navy and served from 1955-1959 as an
electrician on the U.S.S. Jonas Ingram. As a proud Veteran, Edward often shared his stories as
a “Tin Can Sailor” and looked back at his time fondly. Shortly after returning, he married the love
of his life, Marian Rutherford, in 1960 and they set their roots in Union Beach. Edward and
Marian had three children, Edward, Patti, and Paul.
Edward was a pillar in his community, declaring his love by serving as a firefighter and spending
his time as a little league umpire. Edward followed in the footsteps of his father as a volunteer
firefighter at Union Hose Fire Co. No. 1 and during his 26 year career he served as Fire Chief in
1973. He was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family and served as a President of the Holy
Family PTA. He enjoyed a successful career as a relay supervisor at Allenhurst JCP&L. He
enjoyed clock and watch repair, serving as the President of Chapter 142 of the Watchmakers
Association. In his free time, Ed loved to make us all laugh. He truly believed he was the
funniest man in the room, and usually, he was right.
Edward is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Catherine, son, Paul, and sisters Joan
Fuller, Rita Edith, and Virginia Polling.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Marian, children Edward and daughter in law Carol, Patti
and son in law Sean, grandchildren, Edward and wife Patrice, Brian and wife Jennifer, Saige,
great grandchildren Sarah and Lincoln, and siblings Carol, David, William, and Walter.
We will remember Ed as the remarkable man he was and cherish our memories with him. A
devoted husband, married for 62 years to the love of his life, and he would tell you today that in
all 62 years they’ve “never had a fight”. A loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Ed
enjoyed spending time surrounded by his family, telling us stories and plenty of jokes. As a pillar
of his community, we look to his legacy as inspiration to climb as high as we can in all we do.
We will miss his humor, quick wit and the light he brought into all our lives. “Smile!”
