Dorothy Callamaras Obituary

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Dorothy Callamaras, on Sunday March 28,2021.
Our Mom was born on June 22, 1923 in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY to Frieda & Joseph Perez.  Dotti, as she preferred to be called and her siblings  Blanche, Robbie, Arlene and Ellen were all very close especially after a very early passing of their mother.
Meeting her husband Paul in the Spring of 1940 they fell in love and married within six months of courting.  After their first son Nicholas was born they moved from Brooklyn to Keyport, NJ where their family grew into five more children, Connie, Virginia, Paula, Pete and Anthony.  After 23 years living in Keyport, they moved to Matawan to be closer to the business they opened together, The Matawan Diner, here the business grew to great success over the next 20 years with their oldest son Nick taking over the reigns.
Mom continued to live in the highway house where it became the hub of the family and our go to place.
Being retired and with the passing of her husband Paul, who she shared 53 years with, mom got herself involved with some of her favorite hobbies, like bowling in both Keyport & Matawan leagues with her Keyport friends, bingo and of course, Atlantic City.  Our mom was a free spirit before it was even fashionable, she’s didn’t  have to have her son Nick take her because if no one wanted to join her she would just hop in the car and take off to the casino and lets not forget her being a devoted METS fan.  She donated some of her time to charitable interests like the St. Mary’s Church, where she was a life member, Thrift Shop and the Keyport Senior Center.
Mom decided to leave Matawan after all her children were now raising their own families and pursuing their own interests.  This is when she moved back to Keyport and lived for the next 19 years.
All of her children were blessed to have her with them for 97 years where she enjoyed having them close to her and having her ten grandchildren, Nicky, Ginene, Dina, Christopher, Richard, E.Marcie, Karyn, Lauren, Paul & Nicole and her eleven great-grandchildren, Phoebe, Kailley, Mac, Eliana, Logan, Sofia, Olivia, Rocco, Richie, Niko & Jaylin who would bring her much joy and love.
May your Memory be Eternal, we  [ïïï]  love you.
