Bertiemay Banis, 78, of Cliffwood, NJ went to be with the Lord on July 16, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bertiemay was born in Jersey City on August 16, 1941 to adoring parents Benjamin and Bertie May Witkowski. Early in life, she would move to Cliffwood where her and her husband Joseph would call home for nearly 57 years. During her time on this earth she enjoyed cooking and crocheting. Bertiemay loved gardening and flowers. She also had a passion for helping others and was a member of the Passionist Missionaries. Bertiemay was a devoted and adoring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a beautiful woman with a kind soul. She was loving, gentle, and had an amazingly strong will.
Bertiemay is survived by; her husband of 60 years Joseph Banis, Sr.; her son Joseph Banis, Jr. (Keyport, NJ), her daughter Christine Banis (Jackson, NJ), her daughter Tinamarie Majaros (Englishtown, NJ), her daughter Barbara Banis (Jackson, NJ), her daughter Mary Banis (Tampa, FL); her siblings Maryann Zieminski, Debra and Daniel Illijev, David G’frohrer, and Jean Justice. Bertiemay also leaves behind her grandchildren Cassandra and Michael Falzone, Joseph Banis, John Banis, Andrew R Majaros, Miranda Majaros. As well as her great-grandchildren Kaedyn, Kymberli, and Michael Falzone. Bertiemay is also survived by her nieces and nephews Douglas and Cynthia Ilijev, Richard Zieminski Jr, Maryann Zieminski, Liz and Phil Lanigan, Laura Justice, Michael and Michele Banis.
Bertiemay was predeceased by her parents Benjamin Witkowski and Bertie May G’froehrer; her brother Benjamin Witkowski and his wife Cathy; her brother Joseph G’froehrer; her brother-in-law James Banis and his wife Kathy; her brother-in-law Maurice Justice; her niece Valerie Hacker; her nephew Robert Hacker; and her nephew Michael Justice.
Friends and family are welcomed to a visitation on Tuesday July 21, 2020 at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport NJ 07735, from 2pm until 4pm and again from 7pm until 9pm.
