Anthony C. Fernandez, 97 of Hazlet, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 1st, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Havana Cuba to the late Antonio C. Fernandez and Emilia (Calvo) Fernandez of La Corona Spain and is predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years Anna M. (Boyle) Fernandez.
He came to the United States as a young child and resided in New York City until 1963 when the family moved to Hazlet. Anthony proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 -1947 during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the
U.S.S. Wisconsin.
He would later go on to become a Bus Driver for the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority, retiring in 1987.
Anthony was always proud of his Spanish heritage and had a love of Spanish food. A favorite pastime of his was going out to lunch and was a regular at many local restaurants. He was also a member of the Hazlet, St Benedict, and Holy Family Senior Clubs and was an avid and longtime bowler, playing at the Airport Plaza Lanes until he was 90 years old.
He is survived by his beloved children Anthony Fernandez and his wife Susan of Jacksonville, Florida Kevin Fernandez of Hazlet, and Ann Marie Hunt and her husband Francis of Wall.
Also, surviving are his beloved grandchildren Kaitlyn Hunt and her fiance Charles Rooney of Wall, NJ, United States Marine Corp 1st Lieutenant Michael Fernandez and his wife Jenna Bellantoni of Encinitas, California, and Matthew Hunt of Wall, NJ.
Friends and family are invited to a brief visitation at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735 Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 AM at Saint Benedict's Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Mausoleum of Keyport.
