Alphonse Cangiarella, age 90, of Stratford, beloved husband of Amelia “Nellie” Santos Cangiarella for 20 years and the late Leonides Gonzalez Cangiarella for 48 years, died on July 26, 2021, in Bridgeport Hospital.
Alphonse was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 2, 1931 to the late Frank and Celia Voulo Cangiarella. He was a member of the US Custom Service for over 30 years and retired as Head of Entry Division, NY Seaport, 6 World Trade Center, NY and proudly served as a merchant marine.
Survivors include his son, Alphonse E. Cangiarella and his wife Elaine of Cliffwood Beach, NJ, his step-children; Joanne Morales (Luis), Annette Henriques, Janette Mingrone (Paul) and Michael Santos, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Alphonse is predeceased by his son, Philip D. Cangiarella, his siblings: Dominick and Salvatore Cangiarella, Anna McGuiness, Frank and Alphonse Cangiarella and step daughter-in-law, Maria.
A visitation will be held for Alphonse on Monday August 2, 2021 from 4PM to 8PM and Tuesday August 3, 2021, 9 AM to 9:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St, Joseph's Church in Keyport. His cremation will be private.
