Alfred F. Leaman Jr.

The final call for Alfred F. Leaman Jr., age 78, of Laurence Harbor came Tuesday June 23, 2020 where he passed away at home.  He was affectionately known as "Poppy".

He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 26, 1942 to the late Alfred F. Leaman and Josephine (Gerity) Leaman.

Alfred is survived by the love of his life of 35 years, Dian and a sister Joan Vassallo of Laurence Harbor, NJ.

Al was a friend and mentor to many.

He worked for Yellow Freight Teamsters Local 641 for 35 years, retiring in 2004.

He was a 50-year member of the Laurence Harbor Fire Department and was also very dedicated to serving Old Bridge Township as a Life Member of the Laurence Harbor First Aid Squad.

Al was the consummate fireman.  He knew that once you're a fireman, you're always a fireman; it gets in your blood.

Al proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1970.

He also served as an usher for many years at St. Lawrence R.C Church of Laurence Harbor and was a charter member of VFW Post #721 of Keyport in 1994.

When asked to describe himself, Al would say that he's first a Fireman, but more importantly a husband, brother, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

Dian would like to thank the Laurence Harbor Fire Department and the Board of Commissioners for all they have done for Al.

The last bell has rung;  carry on brothers.

At the request of the family, Alfred will be privately cremated.  

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Alfred on Friday June 26, 2020 at 10 AM at St. Lawrence RC Church of Laurence Harbor.  The church has asked that attendees wear a mask when entering the church.  You must provide your own mask.

Enichement of ashes will follow at St. Joseph's Mausoleum of Keyport.
