Alberta "Cookie" Donohue

Alberta Donohue, 83 of Keyport, formerly of Cliffwood, NJ  passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Bayshore Community Hospital of Holmdel.

She was affectionately known to many as “Cookie" since birth.

Alberta was born and raised in Manhattan. Later she met the love of her life, John F. Donohue, a native of the Bronx. They moved their family to New Jersey in 1972. John & Cookie would share 61 years of marriage before his death in 2016. 

She was an active member of the school community. She volunteered and then later worked at Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District for 22 years as a public school lunch aid.  Alberta retired to dedicate more time with her cherished grandchildren.

She was a practicing member of Saint Joseph's Church (Our Lady of Fatima Parish) for many years. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and active rosarian with Saint Joseph's Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of both the St Clement's Church and Keyport Senior Clubs where meet many cherished friends.

Alberta was predeceased by her Mother Caroline (Rosenthal) Jester and her Step-Father Harry Jester; a step-brother Harry Jester and step-sister Ellen Jester.  

She is survived by her loving children William (Billy) Donohue and his wife Linda of Edison, Kevin Donohue and his wife Mary of Cliffwood Beach, Nancy Brown and her husband Robert of Hazlet and Beth Ann Moran and her husband Thomas of Matawan.

Alberta also leaves behind beloved grandchildren Sean Patrick and his fiancé Carissa, Kaitlyn, Casey, Kelsi, Robert Jr., John Liam, Thomas, Derek, Brian, Adam, and his wife Linnette, and a great-granddaughter Lila Dawn.  

Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation for Alberta on Sunday, December 20, 2020, from   3:00  PM to 7:00 PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735, and again Monday, December 21, 2020, 9:15 AM at the funeral home for a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church (Our Lady of Fatima Parish) of Keyport.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery of Keyport.

Due to the current pandemic, the family wishes to express that there is no pressure or obligation to show up in person for the visitation. They recognize the abundance of caution all people feel in these uncertain times and circumstances.

Any and all members of the public who wish to attend the visitation are required to wear a mask and socially distant when paying their respects to Cookie's family. Hand sanitizer is provided upon entry to our building.
