William J. Smith Sr., age 61 of Keyport, NJ formerly of Aberdeen, NJ, peacefully passed away, Saturday, February 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. William was born in Staten Island, NY on May 16, 1957 to Albert and Loretta (Kelly) Smith. William and his beloved wife Karen, lived in Aberdeen, NJ for 20 years. He was a truck driver for the Walling Brothers in Union Beach, NJ for many years. William was a part of the NYPD Auxiliary from 1996-1999; and he also worked for a private company as an EMT in NYC. William selflessly served as a Volunteer Firefighter for the Aberdeen District, for 19 years. He was a loved husband, father, grandfather, firefighter, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Karen (Nelsen) Smith of Aberdeen, NJ; his son William Smith Jr., and his wife Tracy, of Matawan, NJ; his two brothers: Frank and Dennis Smith; his two sisters: Debra Smith and Anne Quinlan; many nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as "Pop" to his two cherished grandchildren, Aidan and Josslyn Smith of Matawan, NJ; and the family dog Abby, whom he loved very much. William will be dearly missed, and always in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735; On Wednesday, February 13, 2019, there will be a Service between the hours of 10-12PM at the funeral home.
