William C. Burlew, 86, of Olney, MD, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Medstar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney. He was formerly of Cliffwood Beach, NJ. William proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force.
He joined the Old Bridge Police department in 1955 and retired as acting Chief of Police in 1980. He was a member of Laurence Harbor Fire Department No. 1, Wheaton Maryland Moose Lodge #1775, Rockville Maryland Elks Lodge #15 and Germantown, MD Fraternal Order of Eagles #3509.
William was also a life member of the PBA and member of the Fraternal order of Police.
He was a member of the Rotary Club, Lions, Keyport Elks and Golden Eagles.
He was predeceased by his Father William Burlew and mother Doris Fallon and sisters Laura Burlew and Betty White, and a son John Thomas Burlew.
William is survived by his loving wife Susan, adored children, William R. Burlew and his wife Mary of Aberdeen MD; Derek G. Burlew and his wife Judy of Cliffwood Beach NJ; Kevin E. Burlew and his wife Teresa of Avenel NJ; Amy and her husband Tony Guarino of Lopatcong, NJ, Step daughter Dawn and husband Scott Turner of MD; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
He is also survived by 8 living brothers and sisters, Josephine McMahon of Forked River; Edward Burlew and his wife Ester of Cliffwood Beach; Elvera Simmons and her companion, Charles Meyers of South Amboy; Carol and her husband Lawrence Steward of Long Branch; Charles Burlew and his companion Michelle Baucke of California; Robert and his wife Manuela of Union Beach; Gail and her husband, Steven Walicky of Toms River; and Gilbert and his wife Mary of Florida; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
William will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited Friday, November 1, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Saturday, November 2, 2019, 8:45 AM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Pl., Keyport NJ 07735. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 9:30 AM at St. Josephs RC Church, Keyport. Mausoleum Entombment will follow at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.
