Maria "Nenita" Diaz-Piedra, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017 surrounded by loved ones at the Atrium Care Center, Matawan.    Born in Havana, Cuba, she and her husband Miguel and three small children came to the United States in 1960 fleeing the communist regime there.  The family settled in North Jersey.  Nenita worked in banking at Citibank NYC, NY and retired after over 25 years.

Nenita was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Miguel Diaz-Piedra in 1989, by her beloved son Miguel Angel (Michael) Diaz-Piedra who died in 2001, and her parents Jose and Maria (Perez) Diaz.

She is survived and will be sorely missed by her son George Diaz-Piedra and wife Dyanne Diaz-Piedra, daughter Anna Diaz-Piedra Shaloo and husband Robert Shaloo, daughter-in-law Kelly Weightman Diaz-Piedra,  and her loving brother Jose "Pepito" and dear sister-in-law Karen Diaz.

Nenita loved and enjoyed all of her grandchildren and they in turn got a kick out of her(!); Monique and Cristian, Christopher and Jackie, Michael and Tommy,  Daniel and Patrick, Diva, Juan, Diward, Megan and Ashley.  She was blessed with great-grand children; Alexavier, Ariella and Cristian.  She was grateful for her loving nieces and nephews Diana, Scott and great-nieces Kai and Sabrina.  She loved her pets and couldn't imagine life without a cat--her cat "family" were Omar, Chino and Mio.

A memorial service is planned at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735 who was entrusted with cremation arrangements.  The family welcomes family and friends to join them to celebrate Nenita's life at Day Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m.  You may post a condolence, funny Nenita story(!) or fond memory to the family at the funeral home website at www.dayfuneralhome.com.
