Leonida Lidman, age 81, of Hazlet, New Jersey peacefully passed away on June 22, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.
Leonida was born in The Philippines on April 11, 1938 to Petra and José Sapón. A highly educated woman, she obtained two Masters Degrees: an M.A. in Education from the University of The Philippines and an M.S. in Human Resources Management from New School of Social Research, New York City.
An author of two books, she also worked as a college instructor, as training supervisor for Comprehensive Community Health Programs at University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna and as Commissioner of Newark Senior Citizens Commission, and as Program Coordinator, Office on Aging, Newark Housing Authority.
Leonida was also an awardee of the Newark City Council President for distinguished service on behalf of the city’s elderly.
Predeceased by her parents and three brothers, she is survived by her loving husband, Walter J. Lidman of Hazlet, N.J.; daughters Mariam Kennedy of Middletown, N.J., Mina Alivia of Middletown, NJ, Maria Bautista of Wayside, N.J.; a son, Tamano Macalbe, also of Hazlet; and two stepsons, W. Kenneth Lidman of Blairstown, N.J. and David Lidman, also of Hazlet, nine cherished grandchildren and four equally-cherished great-grandchildren. Leonida also leaves behind one sister, Susan Lapis of San Pablo City, Philippines. Leonida will be dearly missed and always in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday, June 27 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 28 from the funeral home at 9:15 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church in Keyport, New Jersey.
