Josephine A. (Garcia) Serenson

Josephine A. (Garcia) Serenson, 94, of Keyport, passed away, Monday, February 12, 2018, at home. Born in New York, NY, she resided in Manhattan and Staten Island prior to settling in Keyport ten years ago.  She worked as a bank teller with Citibank, New York, before retiring.  She was famous for her empanada’s which were made during the holidays.  Josephine was a USO volunteer in New York during WWII.  She was a past member of the VFW of Staten Island.  She had also worked at Macy’s in New York City as well being a crossing guard.

Josephine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond P. Serenson, in 2008; her parents, Joseph and Dominga (Pintor) Garcia; a son-in-law, Jim Butler in 2014; her brother, John Garcia and a sister, Ann Hoflund.  She is survived by her two loving daughters, June Butler and Lorraine Mahoney and her husband Tim; a sister, Gloria Groves; six cherished grandchildren; and 12 precious great grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, 5-9PM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; and Thursday, February 15, 2018, 9AM at the funeral home, with a 10AM Funeral Mass at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Old Bridge.  Interment will follow at the Brig.
