Esther DeJesus, 97, of Parlin, formerly of New York passed away Monday December 30, 2019 at home.
She was born in Gurabo, Puerto Rico and would later emigrate to the United States.
She would earn her Masters of Social Work, gaining employment with the New York City Board of Education, where she would retire in 1985.
She was predeceased by her parents Cristobal Gonzalez and Florentina (Aponte) Gonzalez, husband Juan Bautista DeJesus, her brothers and sisters, and a beloved son Alain Basil DeJesus.
Esther leaves behind her son Ricky DeJesus of Parlin, and grandchildren Mykayla and Crystal.
She always instilled in her family the need for education as the key to upward mobility in society.
Esther also proudly served her country in the United States Army during World War II on the home front in Brooklyn, New York assembling munitions for the war fronts in Europe and Asia.
Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation for Esther on Saturday January 4, 2020 from 4PM to 8PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735.
A service will be offered for Esther during the visitation at 6:30PM.
Following visitation, Esther will be privately cremated.
