David P. Vergaretti, 67, of Matawan, NJ passed away Wednesday, June 12th, at home.
David was born in Jersey City, NJ on October 21, 1951, a son of the late Catherine Rose (Bradley) and Alfred Vergaretti. He served in the U.S. Army as a SP4 from 1971 to 1973. David was then a Clerk for the US Postal Service bulk mail facility in Jersey City for 38 years. He moved from Bayonne to Matawan 35 years ago with his wife Kathleen.
He is a parishioner of St. Joseph's RCC, a Eucharistic Minister and Choir member at the church. David was also very active in the St. Joseph Haiti Parish twinning program. He was a town councilman in Matawan, a shop steward for the US Post Office in Jersey City. David was a beloved Pop Warner football coach, avid reader and loved his Mets and Giants.
David is predeceased by his parents and siblings; Roger, Philip, and Martin. Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years Kathleen R. (nee Sheridan) Vergaretti, his devoted son Michael and his fiance Margaret, cherished siblings Catherine Mosca, Cecilia Vergaretti, Elizabeth Lodge and Alicia Wellborn, as well as a large extended family and friends that loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, June 13th at Day Funeral Home 361 Maple Place, Keyport, New Jersey 07735. Then again Friday morning 8:30 am at the funeral home and a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St.Joseph's RCC in Keyport, NJ. Cremation will be private.
