Darren Sutton, 57, of Matawan, passed away, Monday, May 1, 2017, at home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he grew up and resided in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, before settling in Matawan. He was a self-employed bouncer and security guard. Darren served his country in the U.S. Army as a PFC, post-Vietnam. He was a sports fan, especially the Knicks and the Giants. He enjoyed watching football with his daughter. Darren loved his family very much and fought hard to stay with family. He was a people person and known as the “Mayor of Sheepshead Bay.”
Darren was predeceased by his parents, John and Betti (Durant) Sutton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna (Robinson) Sutton; seven loving children, Adam and Jourdan Sutton; Jamar Adams; Jamel Bennett; Ashley, Amanda and Arielle Rodriquez and Jaime Torres; and six cherished grandchildren, Manny Torres, Jainna Adams, Noah Adams, Anthony Acosta, Jazleen Acosta and Lyric McGrath. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
At the direction of family, Darren will be privately cremated. Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735, was entrusted with the cremation arrangements. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 6, 2017, starting at 4:30PM, at the Cleveland Vaughn Funeral Home, 103 Putnam Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11238.
