Walter John Drake, 75, of Aberdeen, passed away, Sunday, February 4, 2018, at home. Born in Staten Island, NY, he resided there prior to moving and settling in Aberdeen in 1999. He graduated from McKee Vocational H.S. in Staten Island, NY. He worked as a truck mechanic and truck driver for Staten Material, Staten Island, NY; and then a truck mechanic for First Student Bus Company, Morganville. He drove a race car in Weissglass Speedway, Staten Island and Old Bridge Speedway, Englishtown. He was also the crew chief for his daughter Wendy at Wall Stadium, Wall Township. He was a member of the Machinist Union. Walter served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.
Walter was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Deborah (Thompson) Drake, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Emily “Menay” (Decker) Drake; his loving children, Walter J. Drake, Jr. of Aberdeen; Menay A. Orcuilo and husband Thomas of Staten Island; Wendy B. Drake-Schneider and husband Ken of Little Falls; and adopted children, Maranda Drake and Jacob Drake, both of Aberdeen; a dear sister, Joan Thorson of Staten Island, NY; a dear brother-in-law, Jay Jensen of Florida; a close friend, Tonie Holder of Matawan; and eleven cherished grandchildren. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, from 2-4PM & 7-9PM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735; and Thursday, February 8, 2018, 10AM at the funeral home, with an 11AM service at Christ Church, 90 Kings Highway, Middletown, NJ 07748.
