Silvia E. (Ricardo) Mahachek, 53, of Union Beach, NJ passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017. She was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Union Beach, NJ before moving to Virginia Beach where she lived for a number of years before starting a family. She was honored and proud to be a navy wife for over 20 years and was very supportive and active in many military functions.

She attended Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ as well as, graduated from Electronic Computer Programming Institute (ECPI), in Norfolk, VA in 1987. Shortly thereafter, she was employed at Comptek working as support for defense contractors. She also worked at Marsh & McLennon in Norfolk, VA and later worked at Prudential Insurance Company as a lead insurance fraud manager.

Those who truly knew Silvia recognized that she was a very caring person who loved her children dearly; a person who did not have much, but was always willing to help those in need. She had a distinct and infectious laugh and always managed to light up any room she entered. Despite some tribulations she always managed to find the good in others and let them know it. Those closest to her benefited from having known her.

Silvia was a Jersey girl at heart and enjoyed spending time in her favorite place, by the ocean. She also loved animals, especially her cat Miggy and her two dogs, Calvin and Porter (deceased). Her favorite pastimes included being with her children and family, listening to music, watching movies, cooking, arts & crafts, and socializing. She was known to be an avid reader and loved to write, especially poetry.

Silvia was predeceased by her father, Mario Ricardo.   She is survived by her devoted mother, Olga Ricardo; her two loving children, Christina E. Mahachek and Joseph T. Mahachek, III; and her dear sister, Sandra Ricardo. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 3, 2017, from 8:30AM-10:30AM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ  07735; with an 11 AM Funeral Mass at St. Joseph RC Church, Keyport.  Cremation will be private.  Inurnment of her cremains will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Mausoleum, Keyport.  You may post a condolence to the family or obtain directions to the funeral home at the website www.dayfuneralhome.com.
