Robert (Bob) H. Mac Arthur, 86, son of George H. and Mary Ellen (Malloy) Mac Arthur; and youngest brother to Kenneth G. of Jersey City and Marion Hanley of Cario, GA (all predeceased), entered peacefully into eternal rest, during the early morning hours, after a successful midnight cookie and juice raid at the nurse's station, while at the NJ Fireman's Home in Boonton, NJ, on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

Bob retired in 1985, with over 25 years of service in the Jersey City Fire Department as a fireman, Union representative and liaison, after his time served in the Navy and a security position at the Kellogg's Plant in Jersey City.

Bob is survived by his three children and four grandchildren and loving family members:

Daughter: Michele Launay and husband John of Kearny, NJ and granddaughter Danielle Nicole Launay of Union City, CA.

Son: Robert C. Mac Arthur and wife Elizabeth of Newton, NJ  and granddaughter Catherine Ann Mac Arthur and fiancé, Glenn Mc Collum of Montaque, NJ and granddaughter Lauren Michele Van Gorden and husband Russell of Lafayette, NJ.

Son: Richard G. Mac Arthur and wife Laura and granddaughter Megan Mac Arthur and fiancé, Joe Selito of Bloomingdale, NJ.

Bob was fortunate, after many years, to have met and married Ruth Cornell (Wermuth) and joining Ruth's family of four in Laurence Harbor, NJ. Over their life together, the family grew to include 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Ruth's daughter: Kathy Howell and husband David and granddaughter Katie Marie.

Ruth's son: Mike Cornell and grandson Mickey and grandson Danny and his wife Sarah and granddaughter Ashley.

Patrick Cornell and grandson Donald and his wife Jennifer and great granddaughters Denise Elizabeth, Hailey Nicole, granddaughters Brittany Anna, Erin Macenzie and grandson Ryan Patrick

Kevin Cornell and granddaughters Julie Ann and Theresa Ray.

Bob is also survived by his siblings children, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Caring friends Cindy, Sharon and Stefanie, neighbors and all the others - you know who you are.

After his short lived JCFD retirement, Bob became a school transport driver for Unlimited Auto Transportation, where he enjoyed transporting students to the wonders of learning for many years. Upon his final retirement, Bob & Ruth enjoyed many wonderful summers at various campgrounds with a returning circle of friends, until Ruth's death in 2007.

Bob spent his last four years enjoying the care of the NJ Firemen's Home from their dedicated staff of nurses, loving CNA’s, taste talented culinary staff, the cleanest of housekeeper’s and maintenance staff, and of course the recreation department, who helped provide a variety of wonderful activities for Bob and a dear friend, who visited often, to be entertained by selfless scores of people each month, who gave freely of their time and talents to give back to the American Heroes right in front of them. So to continue with that same sense of giving: The family requests NO FLOWERS. In lieu of, please consider a donation to the New Jersey Professional Firefighters Bravest Relief Fund, A Charitable Organization, 24 W. Lafayette St., Trenton, NJ 08608 or www.PFANJ.org  or a local fire or volunteer fire company in your town in Bob's name and memory. Thank you … THE MAC ARTHUR& LAUNAY FAMILIES
