Raymond Thomas Kierce, 94, recently of Lincroft, formerly a resident of Cliffwood Beach for 60 years, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at home.

He was a journalist for 40 years, retiring in 1984 from the Jersey Journal, a World War II veteran, a widower and the father of five children.  Further details are can be found on Raymond's Facebook page. 

He and Irene, his wife of 62 years, resided in a house on Treasure Lake that they had converted from a bungalow in 1955. 

Kierce was a Jersey City native.

His oft-stated philosophy, “Have an open, but, hopefully, not empty mind.”

Irene, who died in 2009, was a well-known local artist, a daughter, Christine, died in infancy and a son, Capt. Robert J. Kierce, USAF, was killed in a jet fighter crash in New Mexico in 1973, and a grandson Patrick who died in 1989.

Surviving are three daughters, Penelope Marzec and her husband Richard of Lincroft, Bonnie Lombardi and her husband Robert of Simsbury, Connecticut, Joyce Brewer and Rick of Annapolis, Maryland, Robert’s widow Martha Centeno of Clemson, South Carolina, a brother, Eugene Kierce and his wife Georgette of Shelton, Connecticut, and eight grandchildren; Rebecca, Amelia, Carina Marzec and fiancé Don Ruprecht, Michael, James and his wife Christine, Carol Lombardi and fiancé Troy Walket, Jonathan, and David.

Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 2PM to 4PM and 7PM to 9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735.

Friends and relatives can gather for a mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 3, 2016 at a time to be announced at St. Leo The Great Church in Lincroft, followed by interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery of Keyport.
