John Francis Donohue

John F. Donohue (Chief) passed away on June 24, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Manhattan, New York and grew up in the Bronx.

John worked for Con Edison in New York before retiring in 1984 to take care of his family.

 He was a beloved Pop Warner Football Coach for 42 years and an inductee into the Matawan-Aberdeen Football Hall of Fame. 

John also loved the Giants, Mets and Irish music.

John was predeceased by his loving parents Patrick Donohue and Anne (Carroll) Donohue, his Uncle Mike Carroll and his brother Michael Donahue. 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alberta “Cookie” (Rosenthal) Donohue; his cherished children William Donohue and his wife Linda of Edison; Nancy Brown and her husband Robert of Hazlet; Kevin Donohue and his wife Mary of Cliffwood Beach and Beth Ann Moran and her husband Thomas of Matawan.

John is also survived by brothers Patrick and Kevin Donohue and sisters-in-law Katherine, Grace and Janet.

John is also survived by ten loving grandchildren; Sean, Casey, Kaitlyn, Kelsi, Robert Jr., John-Liam, Thomas, Derek, Brian, Adam and his wife Linnette and a great granddaughter Lila.

John also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and former football players. 

A visitation will be held for John on Monday June 27, 2016 from 4PM to 8PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for John on Tuesday June 28, 2016 9:45AM at the funeral home with a 10:30AM mass at St Joseph’s Church of Keyport.  Burial will follow in St Joseph’s Cemetery of Keyport.
