John L. ("Jack") Collins
August 13, 1941 ~ February 8, 2016 (age 74) 74 Years OldJohn “Jack” L. Collins, 74, of Jackson, passed away, Monday, February 8, 2016, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born August 13, 1941 in Newark. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 and was Honorably Discharged. After the Navy, he worked as a butcher for Jensen’s Meat Market. He then worked for Walling Brothers Concrete and Block. He married his wife, Shirley in 1966 and in November of 1966, his son was born. From 1972 through 2004, he worked as an apartment manager in Eatontown. After his wife passed in 2003, he later moved to Toms River with Andrea Marcus; and recently relocating to Jackson with Andrea to live closer to his son and daughter-in-law.
Jack loved to fish, salt or freshwater. Just give him the chance and he would grab his rod and reel. He loved the smell of the salt air and the peacefulness of nature.
Jack became an Ordained Minister in 2014. He loved talking to people suffering with cancer and encouraging them, even though he himself suffered from five cancers. On several occasions, he gave money to the poor and even shared his lunch with the homeless. Whomever Jack encountered, that person would be forever affected and like by Jack.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley Anne Collins; and his parents, John and Marie Anna Collins. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John “Jackie” F. and Kristen E. Collins of Jackson; and his companion, Andrea Marcus. He will be sorely missed and always loved.
Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2016, from 9-10:30AM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735, with a 10:30AM funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
