George Gass, 86, a longtime resident of Hazlet, passed away Friday April 7, 2017 at home. 

George was born in Bayonne and resided in Hazlet for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents Edward Gass and Eva Dietrich; his loving wife Eleanor (Federici) Gass, and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving children Elaine Purcell of Hazlet; Dee Bradley and her husband Pete of Keansburg; George Gass of Seaside Heights; Elinor Jack of Toms River; Carole D’Amico and her husband Don of Spotswood; Steven Gass of Hazlet as well as Susane Gass-Smith and her husband Terrance Smith of Keyport.

George also leaves behind ten loving grandchildren Elaine Banks and her husband Brian; Stuart Purcell; Treacy Foley and her husband Thomas; Nicole and Nicholas Gass; Arthur, Jason and Joseph Jack; Justin D’Amico and Debra Lapinski.

He also leaves behind six cherished great-grandchildren Cheyanne and Dallas Banks; Michael and Thomas Foley; Jayden Birch and Noah Jack.

George is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was a high school graduate and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. during the Korean War Conflict and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

George was a Machinist working in the Computer and Technology industry for 40 years, retiring from Concurrent Inc. in Oceanport, NJ in 1993.   

He was a very special man to his family and friends, being a devoted and loyal Husband and Father, a handyman and builder, a go-to guy, a fan of the Mets and Jets, enjoying Ted’s Bar of Keansburg and a very peaceful and reserved individual.

Family and Friends are invited to a visitation for George on Tuesday April 11, 2017 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, New Jersey 07735, and on Wednesday April 12, 2017 9:30AM at the Funeral Home with a 10:00 AM service at the Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in St Joseph’s Cemetery of Keyport.
