Carmen (Del Toro) Avelar, 58, of Matawan, passed away, Monday, January 08, 2018, at home. She was born in Brooklyn, NY. She worked as an Administrative Assistant with Rutgers University, New Brunswick. Carmen liked dancing, family parties, crocheting, crabbing, fishing and gardening. She loved her family most of all.
Carmen was predeceased by her parents, William and Socorro (Benitez) Del Toro. She is survived by her beloved husband, Hugo Avelar; her loving children, Jessica Avelar of Matawan, Hugo William “Willie” Avelar of Matawan and Daniel Peter Lopez of California; her siblings, Katherine Bond of Tobyhanna, PA, Frankie Del Toro and his wife Susan of North Bergen; Steven Del Toro of Mohegan Lake, NY; Ronnie Del Toro of Harlem, NY; and Melissa Courtney and her husband George of Powder Springs, GA; and her cherished grandson, Sebastian Kai. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 12, 2018, from 2-4 & 7-9PM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735; and Saturday, January 13, 2018, 9:30AM, with a 10AM service at the funeral home.
